On Tuesday 7th July, Lord Smith delivered the keynote speech at the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management conference. He began his speech by setting out how and why the Task Force was established, before setting out its timeline for delivery. He then provided a summary of the findings from the Task Force’s first report on Planning, Regulation and Local Engagement. He began by outlining the aim of the report - which was to examine the existing planning and regulatory system for shale gas and the public consultation - before briefing delegates on the key findings and recommendations. He then briefed delegates on the imminent publication of the Task Force’s second report on Environmental Impacts. He finished his presentation by setting out the next steps of the Task Force, including detail on the publication of its final report which will be published in 2015.
